Are you feeling overwhelmed by the day-to-day troubles of being a caregiver to someone with a developmental disability? Are you out of ideas on how best to deal with challenging behaviors? Consider getting a helping hand from someone who has dealt with this kind of problem before. One of our Behavior Support Consultants (BSC) can help.
It is the role of the BSC to be an expert on behavioral issues on your inter-disciplinary team (IDT). BSCs are well trained in behavioral health issues, problem-solving, facilitating communication, cultural sensitivity and utilizing community resources. They receive regular continuing education, training, and supervision from other peers working in the field of intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD).
BSC can help with:

I am BSC who has worked with children, adults, and those with intellectual, mental and physical disabilities. I have identified adults with intellectual disabilities as my preferred area in which to work. I utilize person-centered approaches along with Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). DBT promotes being mindful of ourselves, environments and feelings. I have seen more success with meeting the clients where they are and promoting a genuine, caring and respectful relationship to help the client feel important, heard and loved. I absolutely enjoy my job and the clients I work with. To help clients be successful and to see a smile from them makes every, minute spent with them worthwhile!
